1st place  & people's choice award winner - KW-Morph

KW-Morph picked a great stock piece to work from. It was well blended and I liked the overall composition.

Challenge Entry by KW-Morph

Runner up - Julianez & pythos-cheetah

I couldn't separate these two pieces. Julianez and pythos-cheetah both had fantastic entries which only had minor details that set them back from winning first place. They'll both receive the runner up prize.

Puma Girl was well executed and even had additional work done to the stock photo in terms of color grading which made it a standout.

Puma Girl by Julianez

Reality Hack had a lot of attention to detail including the texturing under the gloves/sleeves. It's clear the time limit was a factor and a bit more time to finish off the blending of the braids would have really taken this piece to another level.

Contest:

I've decided to take advantage of the Core membership sale to offer up a competition. Given the membership sale is on for a short timeframe, I've limited this contest to 4 days. You have 1 hour to complete a photomorph, and I'll trust that you only spent 1 hour on it. Please be honest :)

Contest Rules:

1) Must be completed in 60 mins - I'm going to rely on your honesty here.

2) Must depict a zoomorphic/anthro/furry/transformed character that contains a hybridized mix of human and animal features.

3) Medium must be photomanipulation (this may be a combination of multiple images blended together, or a result of digital editing/painting/morphing of a stock photo - NOT MIXED MEDIA)

4) ALL stock photos and resources (this means the model, animals, backgrounds) must be from a legitimate source* and they must be credited and/or licensed correctly (I won't accept uncredited entries or entried that use random photos off the Google, etc).

5) You may enter as many times as you like (Note: You cannot win more than one prize, except for the people's choice award)

6) Keep it PG-13 - if it needs a Mature Content flag, I will disqualify it

7) Must be a new piece of work created for this competition

8) Put a link to this journal in your description

* I will accept the following as legitimate sources:
- Resources & Stock section of dA
- Pixabay
- 500px, but it MUST have a Creative Commons license
- flickr, but it MUST have a Creative Commons license
- Purchased stock from sites like ShutterStock, fotoitalia, 123rf, Dreamstime, etc
- Personal photos (you must state that the photo is your own)

Submission Instructions:

Deadline:

1 December 2017 10:00am (NZT) (click to convert to your timezone)

Judging Criteria:

I'm going to try to be as objective as possible in my judging (aside from the last judging category). These are the criteria upon which your entry will be judged along with their weighting. I will not be releasing the scores publicly.

  • Execution (out of 20) - keep the details crisp and clear. Ensure the lighting is correct. Patterns and markings are aligned with the contours of the body. Edges are well blended.

  • Difficulty (out of 10) - reflections, transparency through clothing or showing tufts of fur through lace, integrating the character seamlessly into a background, etc will obviously ramp up the difficulty of a piece.

  • Character design (out of 10) - the degree and amount of effort put into the hybridization is important. I'm obviously going to score a kemonomimi (animal ears and tail only) much lower than a well blended character. Likewise, in the other direction, I will not look favourably on a piece that takes whole animal heads, legs, paws/hooves and pastes them right on top of a human body.

  • Concept (out of 5) - providing an overall idea for the picture that is unique or interesting will definitely score points

  • X-factor (out of 5) - this one is a purely subjective judging criteria where I will award points if I really like your piece or not

Prizes:

1st Place - 6 month core membership
Runner-up -  600 points

People's choice award - 300 points

Important Note: One person cannot win more than one prize (except the people's choice award).

Congratulations

Thanks to bobbyj251 and oboroten for participating. Sadly there were only two entries so I don't think I'll host another time based challenge. I'll get straight into announcing the placings

1st place  & people's choice award winner - Silver Stripes

bobbyj251 did a great job in the short space of time with mistakes kept to a minimum. The piece as a whole was tidy and well blended.

2nd place - 30 Minute Tiger Morph

oboroten did well in the allowed time of 30 minutes. It was clear a lot was attempted in the time frame with a new background being added and having to mask out the original background, however I think this hurt the overall composition as it could have used with a bit of that time going towards polishing up the piece instead.

Final Words

I'm not sure if I'll run any more contests unless I can be convinced otherwise. Let me know in the comments below what sort of contests you'd want to participate in.
